This site is dedicated to the investigation of computer hardware and software that preceded the so-called "IBM PC". Many types of old Z-80 based microcomputers are in my possession. I enjoy trying to keep them running and disassembling their firmware and operating systems, and the application programs that ran on them.

A pause to refresh? (North Cascades) smell the flowers?
In doing some research to find a good place to retire, I discovered some interesting information about state and local taxes. It is surprising to me how different the tax loads are in different states (and all the many forms of taxes). Some rather poor states (or at least ones that I'd consider less affluent), seem to place an inordinate tax burden on their residents. I wonder why they put up with it? Good data about State taxes is hard to come by, but here are the results of a 2014 study that ranked the States.
